Pre-planning

We are all very aware of the importance of making a will and providing financial security for our loved ones when we have died. Many of us have

life insurance policies which will help pay for our funeral and we see how important it is to lessen the financial burden of bereavement.

Of course, bereavement is about much more than financial matters and the emotional burden can be even harder to cope with. Arranging a funeral can put a huge strain on family or friends. Creating a send off that honours a loved one in the right way is the most difficult of tasks and so often families are left feeling it could have been so much more.

Pre planning your funeral is a way of helping your loved ones through the experience with the feeling that you all shared this final moment together. It can range from a simple list to preparing a service which can form the basis of the final celebration and most importantly set the tone for the day.

Writing your funeral wishes can work in a variety of ways, firstly letting your family know if you wish to be buried or cremated, where you would like the service to be, would you like your ashes to be scattered? You can also remind them of music you loved, a favourite poem or reading that was special to you. Perhaps you could write about your early life, recall memories you shared and occasions that meant so much to you.

As a celebrant, I can prepare this information and create a warm and meaningful set of wishes which can be shared with your family at the most important time.
